Pathways to Careers in Nursing

Executive Summary

Brookdale Community College, in collaboration with Monmouth County Vocational School District and Home Helpers of Monmouth County, launched the Pathways to Careers in Nursing project to strengthen the nursing talent pipeline in New Jersey. This pathway supports students across multiple entry points by connecting industry-valued, non-credit credential programs—including Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Certified Homemaker/Home Health Aide (CHHA), Patient Care Technician (PCT), and RN Refresher—to Brookdale’s Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Registered Nurse (RN) programs.

In addition to training over 100 students through these stackable credentials, the project introduced a Math for Medication bootcamp to provide academic support and enhance student success. The project served 194 learners in total, including adult learners re-entering the field. By building intentional linkages between non-credit training and degree programs, the pathway increases access, retention, and long-term career advancement for New Jersey’s future nurses.
