CMA Pilot Program

UCNJ Union College of Union County, NJ launched a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Pilot Program to meet growing workforce demand in the healthcare industry. This 620-hour program prepares students for industry-recognized credentials and employment in the allied health field. The pilot was offered in two cohorts and included 14 comprehensive modules, spanning didactic instruction, clinical internships, and certification preparation. Instruction was delivered in person by qualified faculty, supported by a learning management system and online resources.

Across both cohorts, 14 students successfully completed the program. The majority earned multiple credentials, including Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Electrocardiograph Technician (CET), Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), and Basic Life Support (BLS). Employer engagement was a key component, with students gaining employment at prominent institutions such as Atlantic Health Systems, Hackensack Meridian Health, Saint Peter’s Healthcare System, and Union County Healthcare Associates.

The CMA Pilot Program aligns with industry standards and accreditation requirements, and successfully positioned adult learners for sustainable, skilled careers in allied health. Strong job development services and faculty support further contributed to student success and credential attainment.
