Adult Literacy Pilot - Medical Assistant IET
Executive Summary
Rowan College of South Jersey developed a Medical Assistan program previously through NJ Pathways for individuals enrolled/seeking to obtain their High School Equivalencies. This program will provide individuals into employment in the medical field or into a full Medical Assistant program while obtaining their high school diploma. At this time, in Title II, there is only funding for IET for the ESL population and not for individuals just seeking their HSE. We are hearing from our employer partners the need for Medical Assistants and this is one way to help with filling the pipeline of talent. Medical Assistant IET- Newly Developed- Rowan College of South Jersey will be offering the course for 10 students.
This is offered as non-credit course. The course will be evaluated for PLA into the RCSJ non-credit Medical Assistant Program where students will be able to receive advance standing in the program. The course has the American Heart Association, BLS certification. Upon completion the Medical Assistant IET, the student can then go into the non-credit Medical Assistant Program which has PLA credits attached which can then go into the A.A.S. Technical Studies degree.
