Pathway
Robotics and Automation
Executive Summary
The Robotics and Automation Pathway Project is advancing workforce readiness in New Jersey by creating accessible, career-focused education and training in industrial automation and robotics. Led by County College of Morris in partnership with Morris County Vocational School District and the Morris County Organization for Hispanic Affairs (MCOHA), this pathway is designed to address the evolving skills required in the advanced manufacturing sector.
The project has established a certificate program in emerging technologies, emphasizing the integration and implementation of industrial automation systems across manufacturing and adjacent industries. Aligned with Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) standards, this program provides both credit and non-credit learning options, ensuring multiple entry points for students and adult learners. Newly developed Robotics and Automation I and II lab courses are key components of a 19-credit certificate of achievement that stacks industry-valued credentials into an academic pathway.
Education partners have worked collaboratively to support dual enrollment opportunities with local high schools, launch non-credit boot camps, embed prior learning assessment (PLA) opportunities, and expand access through bilingual outreach to underrepresented populations. The project also includes the recruitment of industry partners to inform curriculum development and establish experiential learning and internship placements.
By connecting students to real-world experiences and industry credentials, the Robotics and Automation Pathway equips learners with the skills needed to pursue careers as automation technicians, robotics specialists, and other high-demand roles within the manufacturing and technology workforce.
