Executive Summary
Essex County College (ECC) developed and launched a non-credit pathway that prepares adult learners and other non-traditional students for careers in supply chain management, while also creating a bridge to college credit through Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). The pathway centers on SCPro™ Fundamentals certifications from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), which reflect industry-recognized standards across logistics, procurement, and operations.
Participants in the non-credit program completed certification preparation in Transportation Operations and Supply Chain Management and Procurement. Students were supported with online coursework, test preparation, and paid exam vouchers. Upon passing, non-credit students became eligible to earn college credit for SCM 101 at ECC by completing three SCPro™ certifications. This credit-for-certification opportunity provides a valuable on-ramp to ECC’s Associate Degree in Supply Chain Management.
The program offers increased access to postsecondary education for learners who may not initially pursue traditional college enrollment. By recognizing workforce training and credential attainment, ECC’s model lowers barriers, accelerates degree completion, and meets the growing demand for skilled supply chain professionals.
