Executive Summary

To expand opportunities for adult learners in the growing field of supply chain management, Essex County College (ECC) designed a targeted pathway integrating non-credit industry certification with transition opportunities into credit-bearing programs. The focus was on SCPro™ Fundamentals certifications—recognized credentials developed by the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP).

Adult learners enrolled in the non-credit program received online coursework, test prep, and exam vouchers to pursue certifications in key areas such as Transportation Operations and Procurement. Once certified, students became eligible to earn college credit through ECC’s Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process, enabling them to receive up to three credits for SCM 101. This allowed adult learners to carry their credentials directly into ECC’s Associate Degree in Supply Chain Management.

The pathway is intentionally designed to serve working adults and underrepresented populations, offering flexible entry points, credit recognition for prior learning, and alignment with in-demand skills. This model not only supports adult learners’ career mobility, but also helps employers meet growing workforce needs in logistics and operations.
