Executive Summary
Essex County College (ECC) enhanced its Associate of Science in Supply Chain Management program by embedding SCPro™ Fundamentals certifications into credit-bearing coursework. Through this model, students simultaneously work toward their degree while earning industry-recognized credentials that boost employability and practical readiness.
A pilot cohort of 20 students enrolled in ECC’s Supply Chain Management program participated in SCPro™ test preparation and certification through the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP). The college covered the cost of the online course and exam vouchers, removing financial barriers for students. Certification areas included Transportation Operations and Supply Chain Management and Procurement.
This dual-benefit approach—earning academic credit while gaining stackable credentials—strengthens students’ career profiles and ensures alignment with current industry expectations. Students also had the option to apply their certification exams as final assessments in designated SCM courses.
In partnership with Brookdale Community College, ECC also worked to align curriculum and extend Train-the-Trainer capacity, building a replicable framework across institutions. This pathway connection provides students with robust academic and career-building experiences that accelerate both degree completion and workforce readiness.
