Bloomberg Fintech Project
Executive Summary
The Bloomberg Fintech Pathway Project, led by Essex County College, offers a powerful example of how hands-on, industry-aligned learning experiences can transform student readiness for in-demand careers in financial services and technology. This innovative pathway leverages Bloomberg Terminals—professional-grade financial data and analytics tools—to immerse students in real-world applications across disciplines such as finance, economics, accounting, and supply chain.
Through a series of credit-bearing courses, dual enrollment opportunities, and experiential learning activities, the project supports skill-building for high school students, Community College students, and adult learners. Students gain critical competencies in financial research, portfolio development, and market analysis while preparing for and earning Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) certifications.
Key highlights of the project include the embedding of Bloomberg resources into Economics I and II courses, monthly expert guest speakers, and student participation in the global Bloomberg Trading Challenge. Essex County College fielded three competitive teams in the Challenge, offering students the opportunity to apply market strategy skills in a simulated environment. Top-performing students also visited Bloomberg’s New York City headquarters, gaining direct exposure to a world-class financial setting.
Through its partnerships with West Side High School and Rutgers University, this project connects students across education levels and provides them with experiential and credentialed learning. The Bloomberg Fintech Pathway is preparing students for high-growth careers in Fintech and financial services while strengthening the education-to-career pipeline in New Jersey’s innovation economy.
