The state’s economy has long been driven by a vibrant innovation sector, that has developed new technologies and made discoveries that have shaped our world, from telecommunications to life sciences, from information technology to chemical and process engineering. More than 300,000 people work in innovation and technology occupations and these jobs are expected to grow by 6% by 2028. Innovation and technology occupations are found in many industry sectors across our state, as information technology, computing and big data are increasingly pervasive. The increasing importance of Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Infrastructure and Services, Big Data, the Internet of Things and other innovations will continue to have a significant impact on the skill needs of the economy. And Research and Development functions will continue to be critical to our state’s economic future.
