Summer Institute for Data Science Pilot

Executive Summary

The Summer Institute for Data Science Pilot project aims to introduce high school students to the field of data science through immersive summer programs hosted by County College of Morris and Camden County College. This project was launched in response to the growing demand for data analytics skills in New Jersey, where over 25,000 companies require such competencies. The Institute builds awareness of the data science discipline, strengthens the education-to-career pipeline, and supports dual enrollment efforts between Community Colleges and local high schools.

The program engages students through hands-on workshops exploring tools like R, Python, Excel, and Tableau. Participants learn data science techniques, discover educational and career pathways, and gain exposure to in-demand industry technologies. The Summer Institute is designed to energize students early in their academic journeys, providing meaningful insights into a rapidly expanding career field.

This project supports enrollment in Community College data science certificate and degree programs, including stackable credentials that articulate into three degree pathways at County College of Morris. The Summer Institute also complements dual enrollment strategies that allow high school students to earn college credit toward the Data Analytics Certificate.
