Construction Non-Credit to Credit Stackable Credentials

Executive Summary

The Construction Non-Credit to Credit Stackable Credentials project creates seamless educational pathways for students completing non-credit construction trades programs at Camden County College (CCC) and continuing into credit-bearing degree programs at Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC). This initiative supports learners in converting prior training and experience into academic credit, advancing them toward an industry-aligned degree.

Through a rigorous Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process, RCBC evaluated five non-credit programs from CCC—Carpentry, Electrical Residential, HVAC, Plumbing, and Welding—and awarded academic credits applicable to RCBC’s construction and technology programs. This stackable model not only saves students time and money but also encourages credential attainment and upward mobility within the skilled trades.

This pathway exemplifies the NJ Pathways to Career Opportunities initiative’s goals of aligning education with industry needs, supporting student success through credit-bearing pathways, and promoting economic mobility through career-relevant training.
